Hosea’s Heart
This project is about being committed to the needs of our youth…even in times of suffering, persecution, sickness or hardships…regardless of ethnicity or cultural backgrounds. These are our youth and we will be their advocates!
Committed to serving youth and their families. Hosea’s Heart exists to provide youth and their families, in the Greater Houston and surrounding areas, with a safe, fun environment where they can:
• gain purpose,
• gain confidence,
• grow socially, and
• grow emotionally
by providing access to caring adults and youth mentors in a relaxed, physically and emotionally safe atmosphere where they can socialize, learn and recreate together.
With their Executive Director, this team provides programming that identifies and reflects basic needs of at risk youth. This includes but is not limited to:
Positive Youth Development
• Youth Development (e.g., after-school programs, vacation programs, summer programs, etc.),
• Health & Wellness (fitness, recreation, HIV and substance abuse prevention),
• Sports and Leagues (e.g., baseball, basketball, football, soccer, volleyball, gymnastics, martial arts, etc.),
• Mentoring,
• Leadership Development,
• Academic Support,
• Workforce Development, and
• Life Skills Development
U-Turn
Provides Social Emotional Learning (SEL) opportunities for youth that have developed anxiety and/or behavioral problem that prohibit their ability to be successful in the community, home and school, post Hurricane Harvey.
Youth Build
Provides alternative routes to unleash the positive energy of at-risk, low-income young people (who have dropped out of school, been adjudicated, or aged out of foster care) to rebuild their communities and their lives, breaking the cycle of poverty with a commitment to work, education, community, and family.
Healing and Thriving
Children who have experienced trauma, fear, separation from family and isolation are subject to a variety of psychological stressors and mental health challenges. Some develop anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or other conditions. Armed with this data, Hosea’s Heart working with The Gateway Center is developing interventions to help these children heal and thrive. Providing the appropriate interventions they need to recover from trauma and deal with the uncertainties of their lives.
